
LIBERAL PARTY ANNOUNCES ELECTION PROMISE TO MAKE MAJOR INVESTMENTS IN POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION AND STUDENTS

Waterloo Ontario – The Federation of Students welcomes the federal
liberal promise of an estimated $25 billion plan to support
post-secondary education. The campaign pledge announced today at the
University of Western Ontario would bump federal investments in
non-repayable student grants from $350 million to $1 billion; this would
be the largest increase in non-refundable student grants in recent history.

Waterloo, Ontario – The Federation of Students would like to invite students and the entire Kitchener-Waterloo riding to a noon-hour federal candidates debate October 2nd in the Student Life Centre, Great Hall of the University of Waterloo campus.
Confirmed attendance to the debate includes Peter Braid of the Conservative Party, Cindy Jacobsen of the New Democratic Party, Andrew Telegdi of the Liberal Party, and Kathy MacLellan of the Green Party.
Ministers advance Learn Canada 2020 priorities
Fredericton, September 23, 2008 – Education ministers committed today to meeting with First Nation, Métis, and Inuit leaders from across Canada to address Aboriginal education. Ministers were in Fredericton, New Brunswick, for the 94th meeting of the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC), where they worked on key education priorities including Aboriginal education, literacy, and postsecondary education funding, as outlined in their April 2008 ministerial declaration, Learn Canada 2020.

'Ambitious' Alberta Liberals to give students free tuition
CALGARY - Alberta's Liberal candidates are telling voters they support free tuition for students' first and last year in post-secondary schools, a policy Stephane Dion's national campaign admits is more "ambitious" than the official Liberal promise.
That initiative is one of many contained in the party's published "made-in-Alberta agenda," which do not match ones promised by Dion in the first two weeks of the election campaign.

Visit www.elections.ca and enter your postal code to find you polling location - Bring your voter registration card and ID required to register at your poll
ID to register at the poll can be found on the Elections Canada website, under “Voter Identification at the polls”. You will need to proof of your address to register at the poll. - Get to your polling station

CFS and CASA release report cards
Earlier this week, the Canadian Federation of Students and the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations released their report cards on each party's education platform. The report cards are an important measure of the impact that each party could have on the post-secondary education sector if they are elected.
